February 28th Scribe Post--> A Week Without Internet….

We began class talking about Science Fair perspective

Think About=
  • what should have happened differently/what went well/what we can improve on
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The main problem we had during this class was the internet. It had been out since the beginning of the week, so Mr. Pro improvised and we talked about the Water Unit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Interesting Fact: Did you know James Henderson’s father is a scientist?
He works on what we are studying right now. 'Water'. Mr.Pro briefly explained what worked for.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Announcement: Water unit ends in April 17th
        ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Later on the class, Mr.Pro wrote in the board and explained to the class the…

                                       Variables to do with water:

                               concentrationà salt
                                    pollutants à metals, other chemicals
                acidic/base: acid rain    à temperature
amounts à too little, too much, flooding
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After this, we read an article about Brazilian droughts… read this article

-->  this harms coffee sugar, and soybeans selling price. It makes the price go up because you get less of it.

-       What we learnt…

-->  Water issues are connected to economics. read this article to learn more
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then, we watched a video about the ATACAMA DESERT…

Fog blankets  à the man was trying to capture the air moisture with nets.
Interesting Facts  à  these people produce 500 liters of water a day!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-       How can we catch water in places where it doesn’t rain?
     à Answer is: USING NETS
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We also learnt that Japan took so much fish from the ocean that they are losing stocks.

   ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Later on, Mr.Pro opened a document and we had to answer all the questions together. So here they are:
-
Brazil has one of the biggest floods in the world.
-       How can we ensure that we can continue to harvest wild food from out waters?
Answer: we take them to the juvenile stage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-     At the end of class, we filled out a form about the Science Fair all together. click here to fill out form
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-       Then, for last, we hear two Science Fair presentations --> Julia Choe & Juliana and Gabe’s.

       ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

End of class Mr. Pro said final message for carnival: “Thank you for showing confidence!!! GREAT CARNAVAL!!!
