The Secrets of Water

 Water investigation:

Water as a solid
Water as a liquid
Water as a gas

A: Mystery Liquids Part I
2 minutes
Use your senses to try and predict what the water-based liquids are.

Observations and Predictions
Liquid U
Liquid V
Liquid W
Liquid X
Liquid Y
Liquid Z

Deductions:
B: Mystery Liquids Part II
2 minutes
The mystery liquids will be left out for at least two days.  What do you predict will be left in the petri dishes.

Prediction
Liquid U
Liquid V
Liquid W
Liquid X
Liquid Y
Liquid Z

Observations: for next class
Deductions:
C: Salt Water vs Fresh Water
2 minute
Part I
  1. Put _____ in the fresh water and in the salt water.
Part II
  1. Put one electrode on one side of the Petri dish and another electrode on the other side

Observations:
Part 1

Part 2

Deductions:
D: Can metal float?
2 minute
  1. Gentle place a paperclip on top of the water.
  2. Drop a paperclip into the water

Observations:
Deductions:
E: When does 10 + 10 20?
4 minutes
Part 1
  1. Use the dropper to measure out 10.0 mL of water in both 10.0 mL measuring cylinders.
  2. Add the volumes of water to a small beaker.
  3. Pour the water back into the measuring cylinders.
Part 2
Use the same method as part 1 except measure alcohol in one of the cylinders (and water in the other).

  1. To improve your post, answer the question from the film - what are we made of? The film talked about the elements and compounds.
In addition, give the observations and deductions that students made during the investigations.
Also, include the label Unit 3 - Water.
